GSK Expands Target Discovery Collaboration with Relation Therapeutics, Leveraging AI Model MORGAN for $110 Million

GSK, a global biopharmaceutical company, has significantly expanded its target discovery partnership with Relation Therapeutics, a UK-based AI biotech, with a $110 million investment focused on cellular perturbation data. This collaboration goes beyond simple candidate identification, focusing on building a large-scale dataset of cellular perturbation data to measure how human cells respond to genetic or pharmacological interventions. The companies aim to maximize the reliability of target validation, a critical early-stage step in drug development, by leveraging high-quality data. The core technology behind this partnership is Relation's proprietary foundation model, MORGAN (Multi-Omic Regulatory Genomics using Artificial Neural Networks). Relation plans to continuously feed the model with petascale-level, high-throughput empirical data collected through its large-scale, automated robotic wet lab in London. Following a similar partnership with Novartis, this collaboration highlights the growing interest of major pharmaceutical companies in securing access to Relation's platform.
